Member Requirements & Expectations

Since Seeds of Joy Village is a non-profit parent participation program. Parents are also referred to as “Members”. There are members that are on the Board of Directors (also called Directors) and members that do not serve on the Board of Directors. Board Members are carefully chosen and invited to join the board if a position becomes available. The Board of Directors' main role is to support the Teacher/Director in running the program based on a Waldorf-inspired philosophy and to focus on fundraising. All members, Board Members and Non-Board Members, are expected to take on certain duties as membership participation is an integral part of our program. Your active and joyful participation is what makes this program flourish and helps build a strong community.


At Seeds of Joy Village, all members take turns in doing laundry, grocery shopping, classroom cleaning and festivals preparation under the guidance of the lead teacher.


All Members share the following tasks (on a rotating basis depending on the number of members we have. For example, at full enrollment of 12 children, a parent will help every 12 weeks):

  • Pay monthly dues

  • Work at least one day in class on a rotating basis. The class work day begins 15 minutes prior to school begin and ends 15 minutes after the end of the school day to help with clean-up. It is important to remember that it is a privilege to be allowed to be in the classroom. The in-class parent helps the assistant prepare meals and keep the classroom clean. The teacher might also ask this parent to help set up crafts or help with festival preparation while in class. The in-class parent does NOT interfere with the class or discipline the children. It is his/her job to observe and not to interact with the children.

  • Attend Seeds of Joy Village quarterly member meetings (check calendar for dates)

  • Be the grocery and tidy gnome for the entire class on a rotating basis (every 12 weeks at full enrollment)

  • Participate in special events and festivals

  • Respect and follow Seeds of Joy Village's Code of Conduct.
